Dear Borough Residents and Business owners,
By this time everyone is aware of the current COVID-19 /Coronavirus situation that is encompassing the globe, while the service to the residents of Mechanicsburg must continue, we feel the necessity to proceed with caution and safety at this time is of the utmost importance to our residents, staff and the public in general. Therefore, The Borough of Mechanicsburg in an effort to not place the residents or employees in an uncomfortable or potentially unsafe situation, beginning Monday March 16th, 2020, we will be closing the Offices at 36 West Allen Street to ALL WALK-IN public counter services until further notice. Appointments can be made with the staff by phone, or email. If you need to contact the Police Department for a non-emergency issue, please use the after-hours call box.
As always if it is an emergency please call 911.
Sanitary Sewer and Refuse payments may be made at the drop box at the Borough Office, first class mail, or online. The drop box is located to the right of the main door to the Borough Office. We are looking to be prepared, but not add to the current panic, and we encourage you to do the same with your family or business. We must continue a sense of normalcy and calmness as we all navigate this together. We want to do the most responsible thing, not only for our residents’ interests, but also our community’s and employees’ interests. We will be making a decision on the Scheduled Joint Borough Council-Municipal Authority meeting shortly and will release that decision at a later time. There are many links to information concerning the Covid-19/Coronavirus available on the internet. The two the Borough is following are listed below.

A person acting suspicious was observed behind the Broad Street Elementary School. Their alleged conduct was sufficient enough to cause the Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School and the Broad Street Elementary School to be put on lockdown. Officers conducted a thorough search of the area, however, no one was located.
We have been having ongoing issues with the sanitary sewer system in the area of Marble and Norway streets. The problem has been due to high flow caused by above average precipitation over the last year causing high groundwater that leaks through cracks and breaks in sewer pipes. In the last few weeks, we have diverted flow from the Eastern end of town away from the affected area, slowed down the pumping rate from our pump station in the area and flushed a line to remove partial grease blockages. In the coming weeks we plan to perform repairs in the Alison Avenue Pump Station basin and on E. Marble Street between S. Norway and S. Filbert to fix the problem on a permanent basis. We appreciate your patience during these repairs.
In partnership with Penn-Del Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture, PA DCNR and the many private business, The Borough is hosting an Arbor Day of Service in Memorial Park. These groups of Volunteers and professional will be removing some of the trees that are not viable and pruning many others to allow them to flourish.
At this time we will be closing Memorial Park Drive from 7AM until 4PM. Due to the nature of this work and the amount of large construction vehicles that will be in the park for this, we feel closing the park is the safest route for all involved. Thank you for your understanding and patience with this situation to allow the volunteers and their crews to help keep the Park beautiful and vibrant.
Finally the Borough would like to thank all the participating agencies.

Water Main Tie-In Project to Result in Temporary Service Interruption for 26 Mechanicsburg Customers
A water main connection project that is part of the company’s overall $5 million infrastructure replacement project in Mechanicsburg will result in a temporary water service interruption on April 17 for 26 customers on a portion of Alison Avenue and Allendale Road. The work is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. until approximately 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. We encourage these customers to store water from a kitchen cold water faucet in clean, food grade containers in advance of this work for use on April 17 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A rapid dialer system message was sent to each affected customer in follow-up to a written notice delivered to each customer’s door. SUEZ thanks affected customers for their continued cooperation and patience as we enhance water system reliability to their area of Mechanicsburg through our ongoing $5 million infrastructure replacement project.
