• UPDATE ON MAIN AND SIMPSON STREET PAVING – MAY 9, 2013
  Weather permitting; the following will be occurring from today through May 22, 2013:
  The weather has caused delays to the project.  Night work on the project has commenced.  Weather permitting, operations run from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.  Regardless of the weather, no work will be performed the weekend of May 11 & 12, 2013 so parking will be permitted this weekend. Traffic will be restricted to one lane and/or detoured during this work so you can expect traffic congestion and delays in the areas and times listed below.
  

• From Thursday, May 9 to Sunday May 19, 2013, there will be NO PARKING on Main Street from Walnut Street to Frederick Street from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.  Both sides of the street will be posted NO PARKING during this time.  Parking will be allowed on the street between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
  

• From Monday, May 13 to Wednesday, May 22, 2013, there will be NO PARKING on Main Street from Frederick Street to Simpson Street (the point) from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.  Both sides of the street will be posted NO PARKING during this time.  Parking will be allowed on the street between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
  

• From Thursday, May 9 to Wednesday May 15, 2013, there will be NO PARKING on on Simpson Street from Main Street (the point) to George Street from 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM.  Both sides of the street will be posted NO PARKING during this time.  Parking will be allowed on the street between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
  If work is completed ahead of the anticipated schedule, the temporary NO PARKING signs will be removed.  If temporary NO PARKING signs are not posted, parking will be allowed as normal.
  

• PLEASE PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE TEMPORARY NO PARKING SIGNS THAT WILL BE POSTED ONCE THIS PHASE OF THE PROJECT STARTS.  AS THE PROJECT MOVES FORWARD, ADDITIONAL TEMPORARY NO PARKING ZONES WILL BE POSTED AND ENFORCED.

• The Mechanicsburg Area Veterans Council, would like to honor all Korean War Veterans by leading our Memorial Day Parade in Mechanicsburg on May 27, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in observance of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.  Parade forms at 9:15 a.m.  Classic cars will be provided for your ride. You are also cordially invited to be our special guests at our Memorial Day Service at 11:00 a.m. at Mechanicsburg Cemetery at the GAR Monument.  Lunch will be served immediately following the Service at the VFW, Post 6704, 4907 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg.  We are asking all Korean War Veterans to contact Paul Kreiner at (717)579-4560 or email at cmdr1117@aol.com with your name and contact information so we make sure we have enough cars available. “Thank you for your Service” and we look forward to hearing from you.

• Nov. 9, 2012

  PennDOT to Repair Main, Simpson and Market Streets in Mechanicsburg
  Route 641, Route 114 and Simpson Street to be Resurfaced in Summer 2013
  
  Harrisburg – PennDOT District 8 announced today that curb cut work begins Nov. 13 on Route 641, East Main Street in Mechanicsburg Borough, Cumberland County. This work marks the start of a project to repair Main Street and Simpson Street and sections of Market Street and East Trindle Road in preparation for resurfacing next summer.
  
  The $3,132,905 contract was awarded on June 29 to Pennsy Supply, Inc., of Annville, Lebanon County, and includes curb cut work required by the Americans with Disabilities Act, roadway base repair, drainage work, milling and resurfacing, guiderail and new traffic lines.

  PennDOT advises those traveling in Mechanicsburg that they may encounter lane and parking restrictions with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone in the borough on weekdays after 8:30 a.m. from now until winter sets in.

  Crews will return in the spring to repair these roads in preparation for resurfacing: Main Street from the intersection with West Simpson Street and West Trindle Road to East Trindle Road; East Trindle Road from East Main Street to Sheely Lane; Simpson Street from the intersection with West Main Street and West Trindle Road to the intersection with Wesley Drive and Sheely Lane; and South Market Street from Main to Simpson streets.
  Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2013.
  Main Street in Mechanicsburg averages between 8,580 and 13,550 vehicles traveled daily.
